Zeroing in on Curriculum and Instruction: Training the Mind

When encountering a computational question, far too many students automatically start to perform an algorithm. Many times, mental math is a much better approach. This document, Training the Mind [1], provides examples and exercises for Instructors to increase their awareness of when it’s appropriate to bring in mental math when solving computational problems. I encourage you to use this as an additional training tool for your Instructors. In turn, they can utilize these exercises when working with students.

As always, feedback is requested and appreciated.
