Education Department Update: Canadian Assessments Release

Mathnasium Checkups

New Canadian Mathnasium Checkups for Levels 1 through 3 are now available! You will find the following new assessments on Radius:

• Mathnasium Checkups 1, 2, 3
• Extension Checkups 1, 2, 3

There are new Prescriptives and Answer Keys that correlate with Checkups 1 -3 and Extensions 1-3, which can all be found on Radius. All relevant Answer Keys can also be found on the Google Drive. The redesigned Checkups and curriculum are intended to replace those that currently exist for Levels 1-3. All other Checkups and associated curriculum, particularly for Levels 4-11 and Higher Math Materials (HMM), will not change for the time being. Additional Mathnasium and Extension Checkups will be released to the system in phases, as they are completed.

Extension Assessments

Extension Assessments are now available in Radius to supplement the new Canadian Mathnasium Checkups 1-3. Through these you will be able to assess students on the Geometry and Data/Statistics strands at these grade-levels. For more information, please read the Extension Assessments Administration Directions ^[2] document, which may be found in the Business Documents on Radius. This document provides you with further information on how to implement these assessments in your Centres, as well as the new materials added.

Please note that Progress Checks and Post Assessments will be released in the upcoming weeks, along with Related and Extension materials.

Retirement of Assessments and Relevant Materials

With the release of the Mathnasium and Extension Checkups, any other Assessments for Levels 1-3 will no longer be supported. This includes the Original and Core series: Canada Core Checkups 1-3, Canada Original Checkups 1-3, and US Core and Original Checkups 1-3.

The release of the Canadian Mathnasium Checkups also brings with it the upcoming retirement of these older Checkups and their associated materials on September 1, 2018. The new Mathnasium Checkups are to be administered to all new students. Older assessments will remain available until September 1, 2018 for the sole purpose of completing currently open Learning Plans.

All Core and Original Prescriptives mapped to these assessments will be evaluated to determine which will still be available in the content library in Radius. Steps should be taken for students to be transitioned off these Learning Plans and be Post-Assessed (with the corresponding Post assessment).

Further directions will be released shortly, along with a detailed list of materials to be retired. The transition plan for adoption and implementation will progress over 9 months. You will receive ongoing updates on the transition process to phase out and retire older Checkups and curriculum.
