Canada Education Department Update: Canadian Mathnasium and Extension Checkup Assessments 7, 8, & 9 Release

New Canadian Mathnasium and Extension Checkups for Levels 7 through 9 are now available! You will find the following new assessments on Radius:

Upon completion of a Mathnasium Checkup Learning Plan, a student will have demonstrated a mastery of core topics found in that level’s coursework. The redesigned Checkups were developed to target the fundamental skills necessary for success in each grade level.

The High School Fundamental Skills Assessment is optional for students taking the Mathnasium Checkups 8 and 9. Administering this add-on assessment will depend on the results of the Indicator questions of these Mathnasium Checkups.

The Extension Checkups have been developed to extend a student’s current knowledge and allow them to work on various types of applications. Please be advised that this program is intended to be used in addition to a student’s Mathnasium Checkup Level Learning Plan once they are ready for supplemental material.

The new Prescriptives and Answer Keys that correlate with these new Checkups can all be found on Radius. The redesigned Checkups and curriculum are intended to replace those Original and Core Checkups and materials that currently exist for Levels 7-9. All other assessments and associated curriculum, particularly for Levels 10-11 and Higher Math Materials (HMMs), will not change for the time being. Additional Mathnasium and Extension Checkups will be released to the system in phases, as they are completed.

For more information on the new assessments and curriculum, and how to implement these assessments in your centres, please read the Mathnasium Checkups Administration Directions [1] and the Extension Checkups Administration Directions [2] documents, which may be found under “Business Documents” on Radius.

For further support, please refer to the updated resource documents:

*You will find updated directions on assessment selection based on student grade level and time of year on page 12.

Please note that Progress Checks and PostAssessments will be released in the upcoming weeks, along with Related and Extension materials.

Retirement of Assessments and Relevant Materials

With the release of the Mathnasium and Extension Checkups, any other Assessments for Levels 7-9 will no longer be supported. This includes the Original and Core series: Canada Core Assessments 7-9, Canada Original Assessments 7-9, and US Core and Original Assessments 7-9. The new Mathnasium Checkups are to be administered to all new students.

In addition, all Core Computation Assessments will no longer be supported. This includes:

The upcoming retirement of these older assessments and their associated materials will take place on November 8, 2019. Older assessments will remain available until November 8, 2019 to complete currently open Learning Plans and post-assess students. All Prescriptives mapped to these assessments will be evaluated to determine which materials will remain available in Radius. Steps should be taken for students to be transitioned off these Learning Plans and be post-assessed (with the corresponding Post-Assessment).

As a reminder, all Core and Original Assessments 4-6 and associated material will be retired in Canada on July 1, 2019, including:

We will evaluate all associated material to determine what will remain available in the Curriculum Search. All students should be transitioned off Core 4-6 and Original 4-6 Learning Plans and be post-assessed.

You will receive ongoing updates on the transition process to phase out and retire older assessments and curriculum. Please direct all questions to support@mathnasium.com [5]. Keep watching Mathnasium Matters for more information from the Education Department.
