Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!
This releases focuses on a new microsystem and MU course outlining Direct Teaching and Socratic Questioning.
Right Instruction:
New Microsystem:
- Teach the Individual Student: Direct Teaching and Socratic Questioning
New MU Course:
- Teach the Mathnasium Way: Direct Teaching and Socratic Questioning
The new “Teach the Individual Student: Direct Teaching and Socratic Questioning” microsystem has been developed to provide guidance around our two basic approaches to instructional delivery.
This microsystem covers the following:
- An overview of both methods
- Examples of student/Instructor interactions
- How to use both Direct Teaching and Socratic Questioning to revisit Preexisting Knowledge and Extend Knowledge
In addition, a comprehensive online training course with the same title can be found under “Instructor Level 2” on Mathnasium University [1]. In this course, you will further explore the skills and application of both Direct Teaching and Socratic Questioning through both written examples as well as video clips of real student/Instructor interactions. This course also includes a resource book meant to guide reflection upon one’s own instructional practice and facilitate key training discussions with center leadership. We strongly recommend all who have previously completed “Instructor Level 2” training to go through this course. It will be required for completion of the “Instructor Level 2” training path going forward.
For any questions regarding these updates, please contact Mathnasium Support at support@mathnasium.com [2]. Please reference the Operations Manual [3] for further details.
