U.S. Passport and Travel Information for Convention 2019

[1]

Hello Mathnasium Team!

We hope that your 2019 has started off well so far and that your resolutions are still going strong, including preparing to travel to Convention! This year, our Convention will be in Toronto, Canada, which means that anyone who needs to renew their current passport or apply for a new passport should get started soon! Processing time takes 4-6 weeks and can be expedited to 2-3 weeks for an additional fee.

You will either need to renew by mail or apply in person. To help you determine which option applies to you, please take a look at the steps listed below.

**For ALL (Renewing or Applying for a U.S. Passport)**

  1. Get Your Photo

You need one 2” by 2” color passport photo taken in the last 6 months. See Passport Photos [2] for requirements and examples.

  1. Calculate Your Fees

Passport fees depend on a number of factors. See Passport Fees [3] to find your fees and methods of payment.

For those in U.S. who are Renewing their Passport by Mail

In addition to Steps 1 and 2 listed above, please complete the following steps:

  1. Submit your Most Recent U.S. Passport

You can renew by mail using Form DS-82 [4] only if your most recent passport meets all of the following requirements:

  1. Is submitted with your application
  2. Is undamaged
  3. Was issued when you were age 16 or older
  4. Was issued within the last 15 years
  5. Was issued in your current name (or you can document your name change with an original or certified copy of marriage certificate, divorce decree, or court order)

If you do not meet the above requirements, please skip down to the next section because you must apply IN PERSON.

  1. Fill Out Form DS-82

See Passport Forms [4] to access the Form Filler or PDF version of this application form.

  1. Include Name Change Documents (if applicable)

If the name you are currently using is different from the name on your most recent U.S. passport, you must provide a certified copy of the legal name change document. Examples include:

  1. Mail Completed Application

Mail your completed application, including your most recent passport, name change document (if applicable), photo, and fees, to one of the addresses listed on the Renewing by Mail [5] page.

For those in U.S. who are Applying for a Passport In Person

If you have never applied for a passport before, or do not meet the requirements to renew by mail, in addition to Steps 1 and 2 listed above, please complete the following steps:

  1. Fill Out Form DS-11

If you are applying for the first time for a passport, you need to fill out Form DS-11 [4] and must appear in person.

  1. Collect Your Supporting Documents

You will need citizenship evidence [6], identification [7], and proof of relationship (for children under 16) [8]. Click on each link for more information.

  1. Submit!

Applicants must apply in person at an Acceptance Facility [9]. It may be difficult to get an appointment, so find your local Acceptance Facility and find a time when you can apply. See Applying In Person [10] for more information.

For those Traveling from Outside the U.S.

The citizens of many countries require a visa to enter Canada, while the citizens of others do not. Find out if you need a visa to enter Canada [11] before you leave your home country. Visas are issued by Canadian government offices abroad [12].
